A split magazine cover featuring a woman representing CanvasRebel and Orlando Voyager, highlighting her journey from CNA to CEO.

When I launched Adventure Translations just six months ago, I had no idea I’d soon be Googling my name and seeing it featured in not one, but two magazines. Truthfully, I wasn’t even trying to make headlines—I just wanted to help people bridge language gaps and connect across cultures. So, imagine my surprise when the emails came in: “We’d love to feature your story.” (Cue the happy dance and a very loud Spanish, “QUE?!”)

Here’s the thing: I don’t have a PR team or a massive social media following. I’m just someone with a passion for language, culture, and connection. So how did I make this happen? It wasn’t luck. It was all about sharing my story, building authentic connections, and saying yes to opportunities. If you’re a small business owner wondering, “How do I get my name out there?” keep reading. I’m about to spill the secrets that got me featured and boosted my business’s visibility in ways I never expected.

Adventure Translations: A Passion Project That Took Off

When I started Adventure Translations, I wasn’t thinking about press or magazine features—I was focused on creating something meaningful. As an interpreter, translator, and immigrant, I knew the power of language to bridge gaps, foster understanding, and open doors. My goal was for my business to reflect that purpose.

From the beginning, I made sure everything I did—branding, social media, and especially client relationships—told a story, not just about what I do but why I do it. And here’s the truth: that’s what gets people’s attention. If you’re building something meaningful, let your passion and purpose shine through in every interaction. Share your “why,” and you’ll see how much it resonates. It made all the difference for me.

Let’s bust a myth: you don’t need a big marketing budget to get noticed. When Orlando Voyager reached out, I wasn’t out pitching myself to magazines. What I was doing was sharing meaningful content on social media about my passion for language, the ups and downs of running a small business, and the stories behind my work. But here’s the twist: I wasn’t just connecting online.

During CNA shifts and interpreting assignments, I casually dropped mentions of my business—sharing my story and letting people know what I do. I also hit up festivals and networking events, meeting people face-to-face and letting my passion shine through. Those small moments of connection turned out to be huge.

When Orlando Voyager interviewed me, I shared my story of immigrating to the U.S. at ten and how it shaped my career in translation and interpretation. That feature didn’t just boost visibility; it proved that being authentic works. The lesson? Every post, every conversation, every moment matters. Start sharing—you never know who’s watching!

Fast forward a month, and I got an invitation to be featured in CanvasRebel, a publication that shines a light on small business owners and creatives. This time, it wasn’t just about my journey—it was about the bigger picture. How could my story inspire others? How could I help amplify the voices of the creative community?

For this feature, I leaned into my role as a storyteller and advocate. I shared the highs and lows of starting a business, the power of building real connections, and why purpose fuels everything I do. It wasn’t just about me—it was about showing other small business owners that their stories matter, too.

And here’s the exciting part: this feature hasn’t come out just yet, but it’s coming soon! Keep an eye out to read my deeper story and snag some amazing advice for your own journey. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it!

How You Can Get Featured, Too...

So... you’re probably wondering: How do I get my business featured in a magazine? Spoiler alert: It’s not about luck or having a fancy PR team. It’s about showing up authentically and strategically. Here’s what worked for me—and what can work for you, too:

1. Share Your Story, Not Just Your Service:

People don’t connect with products or services—they connect with you. Why do you do what you do? For me, it was sharing the heart behind Adventure Translations: my love for language and my mission to connect people across cultures. When you lead with your “why,” you invite others into your story, and that’s what makes them lean in.

2. Be Consistent Online:

Your online presence is like your digital handshake. Post regularly, but make it meaningful. Share your passion, the challenges you’ve overcome, and the human side of your business. For me, that’s how Orlando Voyager found me—they saw me sharing my story authentically. Don’t just post to post—post to connect.

3. Build Genuine Relationships:

Whether it’s chatting with your community on social media, attending local events, or teaming up with other creatives, relationships are your golden ticket. Some of my best opportunities started with a simple conversation. People want to work with people they know and like. Be that person.

4. Don’t Overthink It—Say Yes:

When Orlando Voyager and CanvasRebel reached out, I wasn’t sitting there feeling “ready.” I said yes even though I felt unpolished and slightly unprepared. And you know what? It paid off. Don’t wait for perfection—just take the leap. Share your story before you feel “ready,” and you’ll be amazed at what happens.

5. Tap Into Your Local Scene:

Local publications love highlighting relatable, impactful stories. Position yourself as someone making waves in your community—whether it’s through events, collaborations, or simply doing meaningful work. I started with local networking events and festivals, and those connections turned into opportunities I never expected.

The Bottom Line?

You don’t need a giant budget or a polished PR pitch. You just need to show up, share your story, and build connections. Start small, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Your story is worth telling—and trust me, people are ready to hear it. Now go share it!

Why Sharing Your Story Changes Everything

These magazine features didn’t just boost my confidence—they gave my business a serious glow-up. More eyes on what I do, more credibility, and connections with incredible clients and creatives who share my passion for storytelling? Yes, please!

But honestly, the best part wasn’t just the exposure—it was the reminder of how powerful sharing your story can be. As small business owners, we get so caught up in the grind that we forget our journey is worth celebrating. Here’s the thing: when you put your story out there, you open doors to opportunities you never imagined. Trust me—amazing things happen when you let the world in. So, what are you waiting for...?
